The pressure

Educators face hurdles that technology alone will not solve

Schools today face increasing demands, and buying another platform rarely touches the root of it:

  • Growing reliance on digital technology in the classroom
  • Limited IT support and stretched resources
  • Pressure to upskill staff while maintaining budgets

Primary Goal apprenticeships provide a cost-effective solution that supports learning environments without overburdening existing staff.

In their words

What school and trust leaders tell us

Primary Goal’s apprenticeship training is excellent. Our apprentices are developing into digital champions who actively support colleagues, model effective use of technology, and provide solutions that improve efficiency across the school. This has directly enhanced staff confidence in using digital platforms and improved the digital learning experience for pupils. Liz’s confidence and expertise have grown significantly, and she now plays a central role in shaping our digital learning strategy, directly impacting teaching quality and pupil outcomes.

Paul Scales Church Lawton School

The support we have received from Primary Goal has been exceptional. From the very beginning, they have taken the time to understand our Trust, our values, and the ambitions behind our wider workforce pledge. That deep understanding has shaped the way they have guided us, ensuring that the apprenticeships offered are not just generic programmes but are genuinely tailored to the needs of our staff and the realities of school life.

Aimee Williams Three Spires Trust

For us, this represents of everything that we’ve done in apprenticeship levy transfer, the biggest single transfer that we’ve done to date, £580,000 on one cohort of apprentices who are teachers who are then learning critical digital skills that they can use to instill that culture within the generation that will come into the workforce in the 2030s for our country.

Ian Brown Early Careers, Lloyds Bank

We’re using the digital champions to develop each individual school’s digital strategy, share best practice across the trust, learn from each other so that we can really build and affect our digital strategy through our greatest assets which are our people.

Chris Moody CFO, Delta Education Trust

We’re really fortunate to have a city that is embracing digital learning and technology in its multifarious ways. There is a really far-reaching impact here of what we are doing.

Sally Rogers Head Teacher, Wymering School

As a school, we found managing the programme with Amy quite easy to move through. It was really clear what was expected. We were able to be flexible in terms of the time that Amy needed to spend out so that we could maximise our engagement with the programme. With Primary Goal, they were really supportive in a variety of ways.

Laura Flitton Head Teacher, Court Lane Junior School

The impact of our staff carrying out an apprenticeship has been huge. It’s been a really positive experience. The knowledge and the experiences that staff have had have been cascaded and shared with other staff and has improved their professional development. It’s also been really useful for other leaders in the school who have had the opportunity to develop and implement other software and technologies to enable them to work in more effective ways.

Rosemarie Patrick Principal

Sessions with Sophie’s Primary Goal coach have been beyond helpful at understanding what she needs out of the course. Sophie is very happy in her sessions and values her time with her coach. Since beginning the programme she is much more confident, much more aware of different programmes and how these can be used to reduce workload. She always mentions different programmes during staff briefings and presented a workshop on AI to all schools in our Trust. She is also part of the Trust Digital Transformation team.

Sarah Kynaston Empower Trust

The support from Primary Goal has been amazing. I have a brilliant tutor who is there at any point I need them. They’re great with advice, when you hand in an assignment they give you feedback on it. It has been a really pleasurable experience to be part of the Digital Champion Apprenticeship Programme.

Nicci Sawdy St Pauls Catholic Primary School

What Primary Goal do that is great for us is they teach us also how to be project minded. It’s understanding that improving technology in schools is a people thing.

Phil Titley Teaching & Learning Support Practitioner

It’s been really useful having the dedicated coach assigned to yourself. They’re always there anytime you need them. It’s been really appreciated.

FAQs

The questions school leaders ask first

Straight answers on cost, workload and what an apprentice actually does day to day.

How much does it cost to take on an apprentice?

Most schools can access government funding to cover the majority, if not all, of the training costs. We will guide you through funding options so you know exactly what to expect.

Will managing an apprentice create extra work for staff?

No. Our apprentices are trained to provide support, not add to your workload. We also provide ongoing mentoring and guidance to ensure they integrate smoothly into your school.

How long do apprenticeships last?

Typically 12 to 18 months depending on the programme level. That is enough time to build meaningful skills while delivering consistent support in your school.

What kind of work can apprentices do in a school setting?

They can handle IT troubleshooting, support classroom technology, assist with network or system management, and help embed digital tools into teaching and learning.

What support will our school receive from Primary Goal?

We provide end-to-end support: recruitment, onboarding, training delivery, mentoring and regular progress reviews, so your school always feels supported.
