Funding
Funding apprenticeships, made simple
Apprenticeships are one of the most cost-effective ways to develop talent. We guide you through every funding option so you maximise value and minimise cost.
- 100% of training costs coverable by levy funds
- 95% government contribution for non-levy employers
- £3m wage bill threshold for paying the levy
- 24 months before unused levy funds expire
Your options
Three routes, and we will tell you which one is yours
Most organisations fall into one of these. Several qualify for more than one.
-
Route one
The Apprenticeship Levy
A government initiative aimed at empowering businesses to invest in their workforce, designed to boost skills development and facilitate growth.
- Large employers with a wage bill over £3m pay into the Apprenticeship Levy
- Levy funds can cover 100% of apprenticeship training costs
- Funds expire after 24 months, and we will help you use them before they are lost
-
Route two
Non-levy paying employers
If your organisation does not pay the levy, there is still substantial support available.
- The government covers 95% of training costs
- You pay just 5%, making apprenticeships highly affordable
- We help you access co-investment and manage the process end to end
-
Route three
Additional incentives
Beyond the two main routes, several other forms of support may apply to your organisation.
- Extra support for small employers with fewer than 50 staff, where apprentices aged 16 to 18 are fully funded
- Government incentives for taking on younger apprentices or those with additional needs
- Opportunities to receive levy transfers from larger employers with unused funds

FAQs
Funding questions, answered
How do I know if my organisation pays the levy?
If your annual wage bill is over £3 million, you are a levy payer. Otherwise, you will access apprenticeships through the government’s co-investment model.
Can we use levy funds for existing staff?
Yes. Apprenticeships can be used to upskill current employees as well as recruit new talent.
What if our levy funds run out?
You can continue training apprentices through co-investment, where the government funds 95% of the cost.
How do levy transfers work?
Large employers can transfer up to 25% of their levy funds to smaller businesses. We can help set this up.
Are there any hidden costs?
No. Apprenticeship funding covers training. Your main cost is the apprentice’s salary.
